What To Do When Bored?
J. Parks
There are multiple activities you can do to help yourself escape boredom. Depending on what you are most interested in will determine the kind of activities you’ll like to do. Are you the type of person who is interested in entertainment or educational activities?
Honestly, I’m the type who likes entertainment and educational activities. With me having interest in both categories, I had to learn how to balance the two. I think performing more entertainment than educational activities can get harmful to the body.
Many entertainment activities like sports require you to use your body parts, which makes it familiar for people to pull a muscle or break a bone. I advise anyone to be careful when performing entertainment activities.
On the other hand, any educational activity is a lot safer. Activities that require you to think and exercise your mind is considered educational activity. In my opinion, people should do activities that will generally enhance their personal growth when bored. Therefore, below are things to do that will better yourself either mentally, physically, or spiritually.
1. Read content.
Reading a novel or article can help stimulate the human mind. You could be having a frustrating day but reading about an update on your favorite topic could calm your nerves by causing you to forget about what initially frustrated you. Just make sure you read content that you may be interested in and not content that you will get bored of.
People mostly like to watch videos other than reading content. To me, reading the content and watching a video about the content is not too much of a difference because reading will make you visualize what’s happening in your head. Watching videos just helps you consume the content faster than reading would.
I prefer reading because it enhances my imagination. I began to become more creative when I read about a topic that absorbs my attention. Reading can do the same for you also as long as you choose to read topics that you are most enthusiastic about.
2. Exercise
Exercising is a physical activity that will benefit your health for the better. This an activity people do when they want to gain or lose body weight. Self-discipline is required to see results when performing this activity.
You have to actually exercise on a daily basis to get the outcome you striving for. Any free time you have on a daily, you should spend it exercising. Even if you plan on being at home all day, there are still home workouts you can do like Complete Shoulder and Hip Blueprint.
Activities like exercising aren’t always “fun” to do but it’s beneficial to you. It’s best to optimize your time with beneficial behavior than wasting it on entertainment. If you’d like to see your body weight transform to how you like it then exercising is an activity to do.
3. Play sports
Playing sports is similar to exercising when talking about physical activities. Both activities require you to operate your body parts and not only your mind. You have to be extra careful when performing physical activities cause the possibility of getting hurt is pretty high.
Although playing sports can be dangerous, it’s still cool to do when bored because it’s considered a “fun” activity. I classify sports as fun because it’s competitive. Trying to win or get higher points than your opponent gets pretty entertaining.
Not only is playing sports fun because it’s competitive but it’s also fun since you get to socialize with your teammates. Laughing and joking are always fun to do when you are bored and it’s a high possibility that something funny will happen when playing sports. Someone tripping and falling are always funny as long as they don’t get injured. So if you want to do an activity that will enhance your mood when bored then playing sports is a great activity to indulge in.
4. Play cards or board games.
I personally like playing card games just as much as I like playing sports. Card and board games are similar to sports because its competitive and most likely require more than one person to play. There are a few card games you can play by yourself like the game solitaire but the majority of the card and board games will require two or more people.
A reason I like playing card games is cause it enhances my thinking. It always feels like I’m working on my brainstorming skills when playing card and board games. Every play I make has to be strategic or I’m likely to lose.
Then just like sports, card and board games kind of force you to be social. It’s easy to engage with friends and family while playing the games. If you prefer to socialize and not be lonely while exercising your thinking skills then card and board games will be good for you to do in your free time.
5. Attend Events
Attending events is a broad activity to do if you ask me. It’s a broad activity because there are so many different types of events you can attend. Most likely it’s a new event to attend each and every day depending on the city you live in.
Most likely the small towns won’t have as many events hosted there as the cities with a big population. Unfortunately, the people who live in rural areas may have to travel extra miles to witness a different experience than normal when they get bored. The urban area residents hardly have to travel far to witness an experience at events or shows since the majority of them are hosted in their area.
Outgoing people usually like to attend events the most. It’ll be social people at these events who may spark up a conversation with you and you don’t want to feel uncomfortable. Now if you are a person who likes to engage with people and meet new friends then attending events and shows is great for you to do when you get bored.
Overview:
Above, JParksJr provided five activities a person can do when they get bored. The five activities provided may not save everyone from boredom but they’ll definitely save quite a few. It all depends on if the person is more interested in educational or entertainment activities.
Five activities JParksJr suggests are:
- Read content.
- Exercise.
- Play sports.
- Play board or card games.
- Attend events.
Each one of these activities can help you escape boredom as long as you are in the proper mood for it. Sometimes you could be in the mood to be alone when you are bored so exercising or reading a novel may be best for you. Then if you are in the mood to mingle with some friends when you get bored then playing sports, attending an event, or playing board games is great to do.
